Posted on by

Spring is finally here and there’s something truly magical about this time of year on the Lizard Peninsula—quiet secluded spots can still be found and the landscape feels like it belongs just to you. Here at Trelowarren, we love this season for its sense of renewal, the promise of adventure, and the simple joy of stepping outside to embrace the fresh air. I honestly do feel that fresh air solves most problems!

So whether you’re craving a peaceful ramble, a windswept cycle, or a moment of quiet beside the water, there’s no better base for your spring escape than right here with us.

Coastal Walks with Stunning Views

There’s nothing quite like the first coastal walk of the season, when the sun is warm but not too fierce, and the sea air feels like a tonic. The South West Coast Path unfurls like a ribbon, leading you through landscapes bursting with colour and life. Some of our favourite trails include:

  • Kynance Cove to Lizard Point – A walk straight out of a postcard, with cliffs that plunge into turquoise waters, rugged rock formations, and the ever-present cry of seabirds overhead. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a seal or two basking on the rocks.
  • Cadgwith to Devil’s Frying Pan – A little bit of folklore, a little bit of adventure—this path winds through the charming fishing village of Cadgwith before leading you to the Devil’s Frying Pan, a dramatic sea cave collapse where the waves swirl and crash below.
  • Porthleven to Loe Bar – A gentler wander with a storybook feel, this trail leads you from the bustling harbour town of Porthleven to the mysterious Loe Bar, a place whispered to be the final resting place of Excalibur.

Cycling Through the Cornish Countryside

If you prefer the feeling of the wind in your hair and the steady rhythm of pedals beneath you, then cycling is the perfect way to explore. The quiet country lanes surrounding Trelowarren are a joy in spring— here are some of our favourite routes:

  • The Lizard Peninsula Loop – A ride that weaves through some of the most picturesque spots on the peninsula—Mullion, Coverack, Helford—each with its own story to tell (and often, a rather excellent tea room or coffee shop for a well-earned break!).
  • The Cornish Way – Part of the National Cycle Network, this scenic route takes you on a journey through Cornwall’s diverse landscapes, from rolling countryside to hidden coves and fishing villages.

Kayaking, Sailing and Paddleboarding on the Helford River

Whether you’re gliding over the glassy surface of the river in a kayak or testing your balance on a paddleboard, exploring by water is a truly special way to experience Cornwall. Local providers offer equipment hire and guided tours for those looking to dip their toes into adventure. Just ask us for our recommendations.

Wildlife Spotting in Spring

Spring is a time of new beginnings, and nowhere is that more evident than in Cornwall’s wild landscapes. Keep your eyes peeled for:

  • Lizard Point – A prime spot for seabird watching, and if fortune favours you, you might even glimpse dolphins or a basking shark dancing through the waves.
  • Goonhilly Downs Nature Reserve – A sprawling heathland where butterflies flit, dragonflies hover, and rare bird species make their home.
  • Helford River Creeks – A dreamy spot for a slow, meandering walk, where you might spot an elegant egret or even the ripple of an otter slipping into the water.
