Dog friendly holidays at Trelowarren
Back to all News
There is no need to leave your furry companion at home when you take a holiday at Trelowarren. Quite simply, we love dogs and all of our cottages are dog-friendly. Plus with 1000 acres of wilderness surrounding you, you can step out of your cottage door and straight onto a stunning walk through our woodlands. The amazing Flora café and restaurant in our stable yard is also dog friendly with both inside and outdoor seating. So really, you never need to leave the estate…
But if you love the outdoors like we do, you might want to adventure further afield.
And with a blend of beautiful beaches, scenic coastal trails, and woodlands walks , the Lizard Peninsula is an ideal destination for dog-friendly exploring. Especially during the Autumn and Winter when all of the beaches become dog friendly.
Here’s some inspiration for dog-friendly activities nearby…
Dog-Friendly Beaches
Kennack Sands is located on the more sheltered eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula, approximately a 10-minute drive from Trelowarren. Due to its southeast aspect, Kennack Sands is often well-
protected from the wind. The beach is divided into two areas known as Kennack Sands West and Kennack Sands East. The rocky outcrop called the Caerverracks separates the two sections and is home to several rock pools.
The eastern side of the beach is dog-friendly year-round, while the entire beach welcomes dogs from October through the winter.
Poldhu Cove is another great option, located about a 15-minute drive from the estate. It is dog-friendly except during the summer months of July and August. The owners of the popular Poldhu Beach Café are big dog lovers and often host fun pug gatherings on the beach at various times throughout the year, so you might get a chance to meet their pugs!
Go for a walk
We highly recommend starting your exploration with the walks around the estate, but we also love this little book featuring various walking recommendations for the Lizard:
15 Short Walks: Falmouth & The Lizard by Phil Turner
This pocket sized book outlines 15 short walks (all under 3 hours) with easy to follow descriptions, parking info and highlights for each route. 5 of the walks are close to Trelowarren including Frenchman’s Creek, Cadgwith & the Devils Frying Pan and Lizard Point & Church Cove.
Our favourite dog friendly pubs
A short drive from Trelowarren leads to the famous Porthleven Harbour, where you’ll find the Ship Inn, an old, charming pub that evokes images of pirates and jugs of ale. The pub is often filled with the sound of wild waves crashing outside, and you might spot a few dogs lounging by the open fire while their owners enjoy a pint at the bar.
And at the heart of the village of Mullion, The Old Inn has been offering food and shelter to weary travelers since the 16th century. It’s so dog-friendly that the first image you’ll see on their website homepage features a charming scruffy mutt.
We could go on and on and on…if you’re staying with us this year, drop us a message and we’ll share our favourite tips for a dog friendly holiday with us.
