Start 2024 with a sustainable trip to one of the UKs most beautiful destinations. Trelowarren has a wide selection of award winning cottages and eco homes all situated in wilderness and nature. With access to idyllic beaches and great places to eat, there really is no better place than south Cornwall for your 2024 green getaway.

Booking a holiday in the UK is one of the best things you can do to reduce your environmental impact. So we’ve put together our top ten tips to help you with your sustainable holiday planning so you can go into 2024 feeling positive and able to look ahead to that much needed trip away.

What better way to drown out the negative environmental news than proactively approaching 2024 afresh with new resolutions and ambitions for how we might all do things better. It would seem that what we all have in our power is the ability to make smaller choices and changes of our own. From how we’ll do compost differently this year or finally getting around to researching that green energy supplier, to choosing to have a holiday in the UK. For some of us, we’ve always made those choices but there are now even more tangible solutions out there as to how we can reduce our impact on the world or just make it that little bit better. They’re often not always the easiest ones but often they are the most interesting and can be filled with lots of great surprises!

Trelowarren has always had environmental action and best practice at our foundations. We’ve believed in finding (often much harder) ways to make significant changes to the way we produce energy to the way we build our eco houses. We’ve learnt difficult lessons along the way but always enjoyed the process and most importantly it’s always been worth it in the end…

We have plans in the pipeline to take Trelowarren off grid and so that will very much be our focus for the business going into next year, so as we set our ambitions even higher we thought we’d share our top ten tips for sustainable actions you could take when visiting us on that much needed holiday escape next year.

  1. Visit us by train – It does mean you’ll have to pack less but take the Cornish Riviera train direct from London Paddington to either Camborne or Redruth and you won’t regret it, sit back and enjoy scenic views with zero traffic jams
  2. Hire an electric car – if you take the train you’ll need one of these. We’ve had a charging  point here since 2008 provided by Available for use by any of our visitors, we’ll be installing 3 new ones in 2024 with Voltshare.
  3. Choose eco accommodation – Book one of our award winning eco homes for your stay in the Higher and Lower Barns or the Long Valley Terrace. Think wooden clad with green spaces.
  4. Ditch the car – cycle while you visit, Cornwall has some incredible cycle ways including the Lizard Peninsula and the Penrose Estate only a short distance away in Helston.
  5. Forage for your food – we have an abundance of wild plants on the estate. Why not take a slow approach to eating and forage from Cornwall’s bounty.
  6. Do a beach clean – take ten minutes and if others have left their litter behind, help them to do their bit. Local charity SAS organise regular beach cleans which are lots of fun for all the family.
  7. Sleep in History – book accommodation in our Grade II listed Great Office Cottages – an award winning project to save and give new life to this wonderful old Estate Office, with cellars that are older than the house it has been fully restored and divided into four beautiful houses.
  8. Choose green businesses – make careful selections about who to buy from and who has the least impact. We love the local shops and farmers markets for this and The Cornish Food Box provides the finest free-range meat and vegetables from the best Cornish farms and butchers, available to pre order for your stay.
  9. Choose the path less explored– you’ll escape the crowds and make new discoveries in the process. There are plenty of great walks on Trelowarren to go and get lost in.
  10.  Share your ideas with others – Already got some plans lined up? Or something to add to this list? We’d love to hear from you about your plans for visiting us next year –
