Good Friday Cockling

cocklingAnd along the river beaches of the Helford there is the great Good Friday tradition of Cockling.

Because Easter is a slave to the moon, Good Friday is always an exceptionally low tide and hundreds of local families turn out with rakes and buckets and wellies to dig, and chat and catch up and finally to cook their cockles as well and as many sausages in a roll as a man who has already done the milking might be expected to eat.

Enjoy a morning cockling then call in at The New Yard Restaurant for lunch.
